MULTIPLE CAR BREAK-INS HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON DELAWARE AVE, PENNSYLVANIA AVE, MAIN ST, STATE ST, AND WASHINGTON ST. THE FIRST BREAK-IN OCCURRED AT 11:30 PM ON MONDAY, JULY 17TH. LOCKED & UNLOCKED, CASH & CHANGE STOLEN. GLOVE BOXES WERE EMPTIED ON THE FLOOR & CAR DOORS LEFT OPEN.
What you can do:
- Lock your vehicles.
- Do not leave any items of value in your vehicle overnight, especially not visible.
- If you have security cameras, check that they are working properly. Increase the sensitivity for cameras that turn on when motion is detected and extend the time that the cameras video for after they have been triggered.
- If you are up later in the evening, keep an eye out and check your cameras daily.
If you are a victim of a break-in:
- If the crime is in progress dial 911.
- If the break-in has already occurred, call the Northampton County NON-emergency at (570) 897-9078 immediately to report it. If there is an Officer on duty in Portland, they will be dispatched to take the report. If a Portland Officer is not on duty, the State Police will be dispatched to you.
