Wastewater Treatment Facility, Borough of Portland

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT FOR PORTLAND RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES OF THE SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM

As many of you are aware, the Borough Sewer Committee along with the Borough Council have been working through the process of testing and trying to figure out where there is a contaminant being introduced to the wastewater treatment process. It is a lengthily process to work through and sometimes at the end there is still no answer. However it is time to educate, so we will start with some pictures. This is not milk, it is a chemical which the tests are out right now to determine which chemical family and then start the process. Please be aware that there are some chemicals and cleaners that once placed in with water become cloudy. Also be aware that depending on the chemical, cleaner, even grease from your kitchen sink it can take about 1 tablespoon or less to disrupt the treatment process.

This continues to happen, sometimes frequently. Sometimes there can be a long period of time between. IT HAS TO STOP! Is it causing extra testing to be done, extra cleaning processes at the plant as well as damaging the membranes that are part of the wastewater treatment process.
